So what is Go & Cycle all about?

We hear you ask,

So let us take you on a little journey. We need to go all the way back to March 2020 when the world as we knew it changed forever.

If you try to remember when many of us couldn't go to work, countless days of children home from school, and the madness unraveling all around us. Well, that's when this project idea sprouted in my head. I didn't have the foggiest idea of how I was to start, so I jotted down some notes and filled them away in my drawer with the rest of my thoughts.

Fast forward six or so months, and I began to have more ideas of the ultimate vision for Go & Cycle. That would be, teaching YOUNG people life skills while helping them appreciate their community and begin to promote self-confidence, respect, and well-being. Not at all a daunting task.

As restrictions lifted and we were released back into the world, I noticed a massive shift in the attitudes and general outlook on cycling, as that was the hobby most folks had begun to enjoy and re-acquaint themselves with after many years away from a cycle of any sort. From all over, Bikes of all shapes and sizes were dragged out of sheds, dusted off, sprinkled with a liberal about of WD40 (other lubricants, rust preventatives, penetrants, and moisture displacers are available), and put on the road.

Now you may be thinking, "what is wrong with that? I did that!" which in some instances is ok, but in others, it's just not. Some of these cycles hadn't seen the light of day in over a decade, and others probably double that. Some children hadn't ridden on the roads, and some of those children's parents hadn't cycled on the road, in many years.

Up popped my thoughts again "I wonder if I can take my 30+ years of cycling experience and help others learn skills that are required to cycle on the road in the UK correctly". That's where I found BIKEABILITY. After contacting them via email and being put in touch with BIKERIGHT (Northwest's local training provider). I was enrolled in a training program to become a cycling instructor.

As I was working as a provisional instructor, I continued to build my notes on Go & Cycle up until Christmas 2022, when I decided to get to work on putting the pieces together to get Go & Cycle up and running.

This has led me to write our about us page and explain why we are here.
